The Best of Heitor Villa-Lobos and Joaquin Rodrigo

This week, I would like to introduce you to two of my favorite composers and their most famous music.

Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos’ best known work is Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5. I give you two versions of it here because they are so different, and both are so beautiful you will want to listen to them again and again. The first version is sung by Brazilian soprano Bidu Sayao. The second version has Laurindo Almeida beautifully accompanying soprano Salli Terri on guitar.

Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo’s best known work is Concierto de Aranjuez, written for classical guitar and orchestra.

Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5. – Bidu Sayao

Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5. – Salli Terri and Laurindo Almeida

Concierto de Aranjuez –  Joaquin Rodrigo
