My favorite Japanese song is Kojo no Tsuki which means “Moon Over the Desolate Castle”. Here are two variations of this hauntingly beautiful song, the first one is a flute and koto instrumental and the other is sung by Yoshiko Yamaguchi. Rentaro Taki, who was born in 1879, composed this extraordinarily beautiful song when he was 20 years old. He died three years later. You will find many lovely arrangements of Kojo no Tsuki on youtube.com. Next is the Japanese folk song Tanko Bushi (coal miner’s song) first recorded in 1932.
