Sonora Matancera

I loved dancing to the music of the Cuban orchestra Sonora Matancera.
Among my favorite songs were Tu Rica Boca, El Gavilan and Sabrosito Asi.
Of course, this popular group recorded dozens of songs.

TU RICA BOCA

EL GAVILAN

SABROSITO ASI

You can find “Tu Rica Boca,” “El Gavilan,” and other great songs by Sonora Matancera in the album, Idolos De La Sonora Matancera

Los Cuatro Hermanos Silva

Although Los Cuatro Hermanos Silva are Chilean, their beautiful music was very popular throughout Mexico, Central and South America when I was there in the early 1960s. My favorite is Cuando Tu Me Quieras. I also loved Escribeme and Carnavalito Quebradeno. But everything they sing is beautiful.

Cuando Tu Me Quieras

Escribeme

Carnavalito Quebradeno

If you love these songs as much as I do, you can find them all and more on the Los Cuatro Hermanos Silva album, “Recuerdos”.

Los Tres Caballeros

This week I would like to introduce you to Los Tres Caballeros whom I met in Mexico City in 1957. Leader of the Trio was Roberto Cantoral, who composed many hit songs. My favorite three songs written by Roberto Cantoral and sung by Los Tres Caballeros are:

EL RELOJ

LA BARCA

REGALAME ESTA NOCHE

The lyrics are so beautiful I wish I could translate them for you, but my poor Spanish is not sufficient to do them justice.

Roberto Cantoral also wrote the following songs:

  • “El preso número nueve”
  • “Al final”
  • “El triste”
  • “Noche no te vayas”
  • “Yo lo comprendo”
  • “Chamaca”
  • “Quijote”
  • “Soy lo prohibido”
  • “Qué mal amada estás”
  • “Me estás gustando”
  • “Un poquito de pecado”
  • “Quiero huir de mí”
  • “El crucifijo de piedra”
  • “Yo no voy a la guerra”
